It's so nice to have this landmark theatre in the heart of Capitol Hill. It's old school, without all the bells and whistles of stadium or reclining seats in a screening room. This place has more of a Cinema Paradiso feel, and you'll be surrounded by people who want to watch good movies... and not their phones.
Went to the Kishi Bashi song film here. Such a great venue and experience.
Just got done watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind and it was a cool venue. It can be pretty loud at times, but I don't know if that was just the movie or the sound system.
A Seattle institution. The OG film festival theater. In addition to the movie screen there is a stage. There is a balcony. There are concessions, including alcohol. The interior is Egyptian themed so you know where you are when the light comes back up. 3 blocks from the light rail, good luck finding parking.
Before you even get to the film, you feel like you've stepped into a movie. This historic theater has that perfect exciting ambience, friendly chill staff, and clean interior. I saw The Menu here twice and had a fantastic time!
Seats are definitely less comfortable than Uptown or Film Center but the films they show are always unmissable. The environment and gorgeous interior make this a really special spot for Seattle cinephiles.
I love the venue and its mission but the sound in the balcony is garbage. I saw the Barbie movie there and if the music wasn't drowning out the dialogue, I was missing huge swaths of it due to the generally terrible acoustics. It wasn't til I saw the movie again elsewhere that I realized I missed key plot points bc of the sound issues up there.
However the theater itself has unique events and the floor seats are great. I still recommend folks come here just don't sit in the balcony if you can help it.
I dread the day this historic, single-screen theater closes its doors. From new films to classic rereleases to live shows - the Egyptian is truly a one-of-a-kind venue. Whether you've lived here for years or you're visiting for the weekend, you can't go wrong with a trip to the Egyptian (or any of the SIFF designated theaters, really)
